Trip Cancellation

The plan may reimburse the non-refundable, prepaid payments/deposits for land or water travel arrangements and the cost of additional transportation expenses when the trip is interrupted due to unforeseen circumstances covered by the plan. (See Plan Document for full details.)

If your Trip is delayed 12 hours or more due to a covered reason, you may be reimbursed up to the plan maximum for land or water travel arrangements as well as reasonable accommodations, meals, essential telephone calls and local transportation expenses. Single Occupancy Supplement

The plan can reimburse You, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits, for the additional cost incurred as a result of a change in the per person occupancy rate for prepaid non-refundable Travel Arrangements if a person booked to share Accommodations with You cancels or interrupts his/her Trip due to any of the covered Unforeseen reasons or Other Covered Events shown in Your Trip Cancellation or Trip Interruption section(s) and You do not cancel or interrupt Your Trip. Emergency Accident & Sickness Medical Expense

Provide reimbursement up to the maximum amount shown on the Schedule of Benefits if You incur medical expenses as a result of an Accidental Injury or Sickness that first manifests itself during the Covered Trip and requires in person treatment by a physician. Covered Expenses for this benefit include but are not limited to: 1) medical services (including charges for anesthetics, x-ray examinations or treatments, and laboratory tests) and supplies, prescription drugs, and therapeutic services ordered or prescribed by a Physician as Medically Necessary for treatment; 2) Hospital or ambulatory medical-surgical center services, including expenses for a cruise ship cabin or hotel room, not already included in the cost of Your Trip, if recommended by Your attending Physician and approved by Us or Our designated Travel Assistance Services Provider as a substitute for a hospital room for recovery from Your Injury or Sickness or Emergency Condition; 3) local transportation expense to and/or from a Hospital. Emergency Medical Evacuation & Repatriation of Remains

Emergency Medical Evacuation portion of this benefit covers usual and customary transportation expenses for an emergency evacuation to the nearest suitable medical facility where treatment is needed to treat an unforeseen sickness or injury, provided the condition is deemed acute, severe or life threatening and adequate medical treatment is not available in your immediate area.

For the Repatriation of Remains portion, plan reimburses the reasonable covered expenses incurred to return your body to your city of primary residence, your original point, or to place of burial in the United States if you die during the covered trip.

All transportation expenses and repatriation expenses must be authorized and arranged in advance by the designated non-insurance travel assistance service provider. No payment will exceed the maximum shown on the Schedule of Benefits. (See Plan Document for full details.)

Ancillary Medical Evacuation

Transportation of Children/Child: If you die or are hospitalized for more than 3 consecutive days following or unable to travel due to an Emergency Medical Evacuation or Injury and Sickness that occurred during Your Trip, plan reimburses up to the cost of a single one-way economy transportation ticket, or same class as the original transportation ticket, less the value of any applied credit from any unused return travel tickets for each person, to return your children/child who were accompanying you on your trip (and any accompanying minor persons under Your care) who are left unattended by your death or hospitalization to their primary residence or to your residence in the United States, including the cost of an attendant, if considered necessary by plan underwriter or designated Travel Assistance Services Provider.

Bedside Visit Transportation to Join You: If you are or will be hospitalized for more than 3 consecutive days following or unable to travel due to an Emergency Medical Evacuation or Injury and Sickness that occurred during Your Trip, plan reimburses, up to the cost of a single round-trip economy transportation ticket, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits, for Reasonable Additional Expenses for one person chosen by You to visit Your bedside, provided You are traveling alone and Emergency Medical Evacuation or Medically Necessary Repatriation is not imminent.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When should I purchase travel insurance?

Buy as soon as possible for maximum coverage. Your Trip Cancellation coverage is effective the day after you purchase your plan.

To be eligible for the Pre-Existing Medical Condition Exclusion Waiver and Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) optional upgrade, you must purchase the plan or CFAR benefit within 14 days of the date your initial trip payment is received for the Standard plan, or within 21 days of the date your initial trip payment is received for the Plus plan. Other terms apply.

2. What if I miss the 14-day or 21-day early purchase period?

You may still purchase coverage at any time prior to departure; however, the coverage would not include the early purchase benefits.

3. What if my dates or trip plans change, or there is an increase in Trip Cost?

Notify USI Travel Insurance Services in writing by email, fax or mail of the new travel arrangement costs you want to insure and include the additional plan cost. Please include a daytime phone number and your Confirmation Number. 4. I'm traveling with a friend. Am I covered if my friend cancels their trip?

A "Traveling Companion" means a person or persons with whom the Insured has coordinated travel and intends to travel with during the Trip. A group or tour leader is not considered a Traveling Companion, unless the Insured is sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

If your Traveling Companion, as defined, cancels his or her Trip for a reason covered under the Trip Cancellation benefit and you decide not to take your Trip, your prepaid, non-refundable travel arrangements may be covered.

5. Will the VacationInsure Plan cover Pre-Existing Medical Conditions?

If you purchase your plan within 14 days of the date your initial payment or deposit for your trip is received (21 days for the Plus plan) and you are not disabled from travel at the time your plan cost is paid, the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Exclusion is waived. For a complete explanation of the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Exclusion waiver, please review the plan document for your state of residence.

6. What does the Cancel For Any Reason benefit cover?

If you purchase the VacationInsure Plan with optional CFAR upgrade, you can cancel for any reason not already covered by your plan, provided you cancel no later than 48 hours prior to your trip’s scheduled departure. If you are forced to cancel for a reason not otherwise covered by your plan, Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage will reimburse you 75% of your prepaid, forfeited, non-refundable payments for the insured Trip arrangement(s) up to the maximum benefit shown on the Schedule of Benefits. To be eligible for this benefit, you must purchase the VacationInsure Standard Plan with CFAR within 14 days of the date your initial payment or deposit for your trip is received (21 days for the Plus plan). This Optional Cancel for Any Reason Benefit does not cover the failure of your Retail Travel Supplier to provide the bargained-for Travel Arrangements due to cessation of operations for any reason. Additional costs and terms apply.

7. Can I add the Cancel For Any Reason benefit after I buy the plan?

The Cancel For Any Reason optional benefit is available for purchase at an additional cost if you purchase the Standard Plan within 14 days of the date your initial trip payment/deposit is received, or the Plus Plan within 21 days of the date your initial trip payment/deposit is received. CFAR is not available to residents of NY.

8. What if I don't want to take my trip because of terrorist attacks?

The VacationInsure Plan provides Trip Cancellation coverage if a terrorist incident occurs before your trip and within 30 days of your scheduled departure date in a city listed on your scheduled itinerary. Additional terms apply.

9. How far in advance can I buy my plan?

VacationInsure is available for purchase up to 18 months before your scheduled departure date for the Standard plan, and up to 24 months before your scheduled departure date for the Plus plan.

10. What is the maximum trip cost per person?

The maximum trip cost you can insure is $100,000 per person.

11. How much of my trip cost should I insure?

We recommend you insure ALL pre-paid travel arrangements that have any cancellation penalties or restrictions.

12. Do I need to insure my airfare cost?

If your airfare is subject to a cancellation penalty or restriction (most are), we recommend that you insure it.

13. Can I insure my frequent flyer miles?

No, frequent flyer miles cannot be insured.

14. Can I choose the benefits I wish to purchase? For example, can I buy Trip Cancellation coverage only?

No. However, you may choose from two plan options with different benefit levels and pricing: Standard and Plus. Please take a moment to compare them to see which one best fits your needs.

15. Can I cancel the plan after I purchase it?

The plan can be cancelled for a full refund within 15 days of the plan purchase date as long as you have not traveled, incurred a loss or had a claim during this time. Plan is non-refundable after 15 days from purchase date.
