Why Do I Need Travel Insurance?
Your health insurance may not cover you while you're traveling
- Medical policies and HMO's may provide you limited coverage outside of the United States.
- Medicare provides no coverage.
That may leave you with high bills if a medical emergency strikes. If you need to be medically evacuated, your expenses can easily reach $50,000 or more.
The National Trust Travel Plan's Accident and Sickness Medical Expense Benefit covers injuries and sicknesses during a trip, up to the benefit maximum. Covered expenses can include medical services provided by a physician and hospital expenses. This can also cover injuries to sound natural teeth (subject to a lower limit) and prescription drugs. The plan is subject to an excess insurance limitation. See Coverage Highlights for more details.
If you need to cancel your trip, you may not get a refund
There are a number of events that could prevent you from taking your trip. Some are personal, like an unexpected illness, injury, or even a death in the family. Others are out of your control for example, a terrorist incident occurs in a city listed on your itinerary. A trip cancellation or interruption can cause you to lose some or all of your investment.
The National Trust Travel Plan’s Trip Cancellation
benefit reimburses your covered trip cost when you cancel or interrupt a trip due to reasons covered by the plan.
Upgrade the National Trust Travel Plan with CFAR and know that you can cancel your trip for any reason. With CFAR, your pre-paid, nonrefundable trip payments are covered for up to 70% of your Total Trip Cost when you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered under the Trip Cancellation benefit. See Coverage Highlights for more details.
The optional Cancel/Interruption for Any Reason upgrade is not available to residents of NY; call 1-800-937-1387 for other options.
If your cruise or tour leaves without you, it may cost extra to catch up
If you miss your cruise or tour departure due to a cancelled or delayed flight or inclement weather, you may need to pay additional transportation expenses to join your departed cruise or tour.
The plan reimburses you up to a maximum of $2,500 for additional transportation costs incurred to join the departed trip and unused, prepaid, non-refundable payments and deposits for land or water travel arrangements you purchased for your trip. See Coverage Highlights for more details.
If your personal belongings are lost or stolen, it may cost extra to replace them
Your baggage and personal possessions can be lost, stolen, or damaged anytime, anywhere in the world. Airlines may provide only limited coverage for your checked baggage and may not cover your carry-on items.
The National Trust Travel Plan’s Baggage Loss/Delay benefits cover loss or damage to your personal effects and can reimburse your purchase of necessities if your baggage is misdirected or delayed for 12 hours or more during your trip. See Coverage Highlights for more details.
