Why Do I Need Travel Insurance?

No one expects to cancel or interrupt a trip, but it happens

What if a family member suddenly becomes sick or seriously injured before you depart? What if inclement weather prevents you from reaching your destination? These events could cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip and lose some or all of your prepaid trip expenses.

The National Trust Travel Plan’s Trip Cancellation benefit reimburses up to 100% of your covered trip cost when you cancel or interrupt a trip due to reasons covered by the plan.

Upgrade the National Trust Travel Plan with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit (CFAR) and know that you can cancel your trip for any reason. With CFAR, your pre-paid, nonrefundable trip payments are covered for up to 70% of your Total Trip Cost when you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered under the Trip Cancellation benefit. See Coverage Highlights for more details.

The optional Cancel For Any Reason upgrade is not available to residents of NY. Call 1-800-937-1387 for other options.

Your health insurance may not cover you while you're traveling

  • Medical policies and HMO's may provide you limited coverage outsite of the United States.
  • Medicare provides no coverage.

That may leave you with high bills if a medical emergency strikes. If you need to be medically evacuated, costs to you can easily reach $50,000 or more.

The National Trust Travel Plan's Accident and Sickness Medical Expense Benefit covers injuries and sicknesses during a trip, up to the benefit maximum. Covered expenses can include medical services provided by a physician and hospital expenses. This can also cover injuries to sound natural teeth (subject to a lower limit) and prescription drugs. The plan is subject to an excess insurance limitation. See Coverage Highlights for more details.

If your cruise or tour leaves without you, it may cost extra to catch up

If you miss your cruise or tour departure due to a cancelled or delayed flight or inclement weather, you may need to pay additional transportation expenses to join your departed cruise or tour.

The National Trust Travel Plan reimburses you up to a maximum of $2,500 for additional transportation costs incurred to join the departed trip and unused, prepaid, non-refundable payments and deposits for land or water travel arrangements you purchased for your trip. See Coverage Highlights for more details.
