Why Do I Need Travel Insurance?

What if a family member suddenly becomes sick or seriously injured before you depart? What if inclement weather prevents you from reaching your destination? These events could cause you to cancel or interrupt your trip and lose some or all of your prepaid trip expenses.

The National Trust Tours Travel Plan’s Trip Cancellation and Trip Interruption benefits reimburse your covered trip cost when you cancel or interrupt a trip due to reasons covered by the plan (for example, Illness, Injury, Sickness, Death, Strike, Inclement Weather or a Terrorist Incident).

Upgrade the National Trust Tours Travel Plan with the Cancel For Any Reason benefit (CFAR) and know that you can cancel your trip for any reason. With CFAR, your pre-paid, nonrefundable trip payments are covered for up to 75% of your Total Trip Cost when you cancel your trip for any reason not otherwise covered under the Trip Cancellation benefit. See Plan Benefits for more details. Additional cost and terms apply.

The optional Cancel For Any Reason upgrade is not available to residents of NY. Call 1‑800‑937‑1387 for other options.

Your health insurance may not cover you while you're traveling. Some U.S. health insurance plans may not provide coverage abroad. Moreover, some U.S. health insurance plans may be limited within the U.S. if you are outside of your plan's coverage area, resulting in out-of-pocket costs.

The National Trust Tours Travel Plan can pay for covered medical expenses incurred as a result of injury or sickness that first manifests or occurs on your trip. Covered medical expenses can include prescription drug costs, medical treatment or services ordered by a physician, as well as emergency dental treatment (subject to a lower limit). See Plan Benefits for more details.

If your airfare is subject to a cancellation penalty or restriction (most are), we recommend that you insure it. No, frequent flyer miles cannot be insured.

Can I choose the benefits I wish to purchase? For example, can I just buy Trip Cancellation protection?

What does the Cancel For Any Reason benefit cover?

If you purchase the National Trust Travel Plan with optional CFAR upgrade, you can cancel for any reason not already covered by your plan, provided you cancel at least two (2) days prior to your trip’s scheduled departure. To be eligible for this benefit, you must purchase the optional National Trust Travel Plan with CFAR within 21 days of the date your initial payment or deposit for your trip is received. This optional Cancel for Any Reason Benefit does not cover the failure of your Retail Travel Supplier to provide the bargained-for Travel Arrangements due to cessation of operations for any reason.

Will the National Trust Travel Plan cover Pre-Existing medical conditions?

If you purchase your plan within 21 days of the date your initial payment or deposit for your trip is received and you are not disabled from travel at the time your plan cost is paid, the Pre-Existing Medical Conditions Exclusion is waived. I'm traveling with a friend. Am I covered if my friend cancels their trip?

A "Traveling Companion" means a person or persons with whom the Insured has coordinated travel arrangements and intends to travel with during the Trip. A group or tour leader is not considered a Traveling Companion, unless the Insured is sharing room accommodations with the group or tour leader.

If your Traveling Companion, as defined, cancels his or her Trip for a reason covered by the National Trust Travel Plan, you are protected in two ways:

  1. If you decide to take your Trip, the plan will reimburse your additional cost as a result of a change in the per-person occupancy rate for prepaid, non-refundable travel arrangements, or
  2. If you decide not to take your Trip, your prepaid, non-refundable travel arrangements may be covered. However, this only applies to select covered reasons, such as sickness. Others only apply if an unfortunate event occurs to you.

See the National Trust Travel Plan Plan Document for complete details about this benefit.
